Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) underpins the practice of Invictus Psychological Services and although an effective stand-alone approach it also dovetails and supplements other evidential therapies that are also used when needed.

What is CBT?

CBT is an evidence-based approach that has been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies to be an effective treatment for a range of mental health and general life issues. Some of these include mood and anxiety disorders, addictions, stress-related problems, communication difficulties, grief and loss, anger problems, issues associated with low-self esteem, relationship problems, trauma and health issues.

CBT works with our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Therapists using this modality understand that by changing the way we think and what we do can affect how we feel in the 'here and now.' CBT also explores the origins of beliefs, rules, and assumptions which generally develop in childhood and which play a significant role in shaping our view of self, others and the world. These belief structures, once identified and modified, can be used to change the present.

As an approach, CBT empowers individuals to take control of his or her life by assisting them to become their own therapists. The approach is collaborative, time-limited, goal-oriented and problem-focused.

If you have any questions about whether CBT is right for you please feel free to contact Deborah at Invictus on 0272770607
